《Chongqing: Accelerate the Development of Iconic Achievements for the Bashu Cultural‑Tourism Corridor》
The “Hello! Chongqing” Themed Promotion Event
The majestic and rugged beauty of Wulong’s Three Natural Bridges, the dazzling lights of the Yuzhong Peninsula, and the vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere that permeates the ordinary streets and alleys of this “Mountain City”… all have become powerful tools for Chongqing to win over fans in Thailand.
Recently, the “2026 Northern Thailand International Travel Fair,” organized by the Northern Branch of the Thailand Outbound Travel

Association, was held at Central Shopping Mall in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The “Hello! Chongqing” promotional event made its debut at the fair and garnered significant attention.
As the largest travel fair in northern Thailand, the event ran for three days.
Promotional activities featuring attraction tickets, travel packages, and special offers on hotels and flights drew huge crowds.
Chongqing, in collaboration with the China National Tourism Administration’s Bangkok Office, organized nine tourism-related enterprises to participate in the exhibition.
This initiative achieved synergistic promotion between the national brand “Hello! China” and the city brand
“Hello! Chongqing,” allowing for targeted cultivation of the Northern Thailand market for travel to Chongqing.

Chongqing’s premium cultural and tourism resources attracted significant attention from local residents.
During the exhibition, newly released Thai-language promotional materials for Chongqing’s cultural and tourism sector presented Thai visitors with a vivid picture of “Magnificent Landscapes, New Charm of Chongqing.” Notably, on the “Hello! Chongqing” themed promotional stage, professional tour guides—who have extensive experience in organizing tours to China and are well-versed in Thai tourists’ preferences—were invited to “promote” Chongqing’s premium cultural and tourism resources on-site.
Through their expert insights and vivid commentary, they ignited local residents’ enthusiasm to visit the “8D Magical City.”
This event also serves as a vivid snapshot of the frequent, two-way cultural and tourism exchanges between Chongqing and Thailand in recent years.
In 2025, the Tourism Authority of Thailand designated Chongqing as the first stop on its annual roadshow to China, organizing nearly 50 leading Thai cultural and tourism enterprises to come to Chongqing for targeted business matchmaking;
In 2026, Thailand participated in the Chongqing International Travel Agents Conference as the Guest of Honor, and the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism formally signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Tourism Cooperation” with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, marking the transition of Chongqing-Thailand cultural and tourism cooperation from routine people-to-people exchanges and project-based collaboration to a new phase of institutionalized and mechanism-based development.
In addition, a series of key events jointly planned and organized by both sides—including “May 19 China Tourism Day,” the “Sharing the Moonlit Night” Mid-Autumn Festival Culture and Tourism Carnival, and the “I Want to Go to China” and “I ‘Thai’ Want to Go to Chongqing” short video creativity contests—have consistently garnered widespread attention, continuously enhancing the visibility and brand influence of Chongqing’s culture and tourism in Thailand.
On-site promotion at the “Hello! Chongqing” themed promotional event
Relevant statistics show that from January to July this year, Chongqing welcomed 154.1% more overnight visitors from Thailand compared to the same period last year. Thailand has consistently ranked among the top source markets for inbound tourism to Chongqing and remains a core growth driver for the city’s inbound tourism market.
A representative from the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism stated that Chongqing is one of the first members and a leading initiator of the Lancang-Mekong Tourism Cities Cooperation Alliance, while Thailand is also a key driving force within the alliance.
The two sides share a solid foundation for cooperation and vast potential for future development. Moving forward, Chongqing will leverage the platform of the Lancang-Mekong Tourism Cities Cooperation Alliance to actively promote the proven experiences of Chongqing-Thailand cultural and tourism cooperation, extend its influence to the Lancang-Mekong region, and establish a model of mutually beneficial cooperation in cultural and tourism exchanges between Western China and Southeast Asian countries.
This initiative will help accelerate Chongqing’s development into a world-renowned cultural and tourism destination and fully establish it as the “first stop for inbound tourism from Southeast Asia.”
